Supporting Young Burn Survivors

Empowering and Healing Camp Experiences

Camp BUCKO (Burn Camp for Kids in Ontario), founded in 1995, is a free residential camp for young burn survivors in Ontario. Initially administered by the Burn Units at four Ontario hospitals, Camp BUCKO became a registered charity in 2000. We are supported entirely by donations from businesses, service clubs, fundraisers, fire services as well as personal and memorial contributions. Our dedicated six-person Board of Directors, all volunteers, ensures that every child aged 7-17 with a qualifying burn injury can experience the joy and healing of our camp without any cost. We create a safe, nurturing environment where kids can be themselves and find community.

Our Core Mission

Fun and Adventure

Camp BUCKO provides a fun-filled outdoor adventure, helping young burn survivors rediscover joy and excitement in a safe, supportive environment.

Community and Connection

We foster a sense of community by bringing together campers with similar experiences, helping them learn about themselves and others.

Leadership and Growth

We promote leadership and personal growth through activities that enhance self-esteem and introduce campers to dynamic role models, including adult burn survivors.

Volunteer Excellence

Our volunteers are the backbone of Camp BUCKO. Their dedication and compassion ensure a transformative and enriching experience for every camper.

BUCKO in the City

This event, held on the first Saturday of March Break, offers urban families a taste of the camp experience.

Family Camp

It is Camp BUCKO’s mission to provide support for young burn survivors and we recognize how important it is to include their families. Family Camp is an opportunity for families to participate in camp programs similar to those offered during the week of Camp BUCKO. Plans are underway for our next Fall Family Camp weekend at Cedar Ridge Camp.

Information for Volunteers

Our volunteers are the backbone of Camp BUCKO. They come from diverse backgrounds, including adult burn survivors, firefighters, healthcare professionals, teachers, business personnel, the military and other adventurous souls within Ontario. New applicants must provide two positive references and will be interviewed by our Volunteer Coordinator. Volunteers must attend a mandatory in-person orientation program in the spring and commit to their roles for the entire camp week.
