Camp BUCKO 2021 Volunteer Reference Package

You have been asked to provide a reference for a volunteer applicant for Camp BUCKO (Burn Camp for Kids in Ontario).  Volunteers play a key role in providing a positive and enjoyable camp experience for children who have had burn injuries.  We appreciate you taking the time to complete the following form as openly and honestly as possible.  We have included a description about Camp BUCKO for your information.

Camp BUCKO is a fun, safe, and caring camp program free to kids in Ontario between the ages of 7-17 with burn injuries.  Camp BUCKO offers a fun-filled, 6-day residential camp setting where campers participate in social, recreational, and therapeutic activities.  We would like to know what you think this applicant has to offer Camp BUCKO.

We are appreciative of Camp BUCKO volunteers as we know that they have given up their own time to contribute to the camp experience of others.  It is important for you to understand the Camp BUCKO philosophy and appreciate the environment that we are striving to create.

Since 1995, Camp BUCKO has provided a camp for children who have various kinds of burn injuries.  We are a registered charity with a strong volunteer base and we accept a diverse group of volunteers based on the number of children attending camp each year.

Camp Aims and Goals

  • to create a sense of community by providing a place where campers can learn about themselves and others with similar experiences
  • to introduce campers to dynamic role models by including adult burn survivors as Camp BUCKO volunteers
  • to promote each child’s unique abilities and strengths as steps in enhancing self-acceptance
  • to promote opportunities for campers to learn about working in groups as well as in one-on-one interactions among peers of the same and opposite sex.
