 OUR VOLUNTEERS

Volunteering at Camp BUCKO is a dynamic opportunity to challenge oneself while supporting the growth of young burn survivors. We are appreciative of Camp BUCKO volunteers as we know that they have given up their own time to contribute to the camp experience of others. It is important for you to understand the Camp BUCKO philosophy and appreciate the environment that we are striving to create.

Plans are well underway for Camp BUCKO 2024 and we are all very excited about our upcoming camp. We are very hopeful that the Pandemic will settle down and that we will be able to bring the Camp BUCKO program to our amazing campers!! Please note, Camp BUCKO is moving ahead with our plans for Orientation 2024 and Camp Week 2024. We hope you will join us as the theme for 2024 is….SAFARI!!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Camp BUCKO!

WHO WE ARE

Camp volunteers come from all walks of life. They are often adult burn survivors, firefighters, physio/occupational therapists, social workers, teachers, business persons, nurses, and other adventurous souls. We are looking for volunteers to take on the following tasks: cabin counsellors and camp specialists.

CABIN COUNSELLORS

The cabin counsellors play a key role in supporting the camper’s experience at Camp BUCKO.
Cabin counsellors have a distinct role in providing one to one camper support if required and
being sensitive to the unique needs that some burn survivors have. Cabin counsellors are
assigned to a cabin group for the week.

CAMP SPECIALISTS

The purpose of camp is to provide exciting and fun programs. Our diverse group of volunteers will fulfill the following camp specialist roles including nurses, a social worker, fluids team, fishing team, photography team, arts and crafts team and a team of camp specialists to work in Beezers Corner.

Beezers Corner Team

This is a quiet activity campers have the supplies and volunteer support to create many different bracelets. Board games and puzzles are also available to enjoy in this quiet area.

Social Worker

Our Social Worker is qualified to provide onsite therapy for campers as required.

 Camp Nurses

Camp BUCKO’s Nurses are registered nurses attending to campers individual medical needs.

Arts & Crafts Team

This is one of the quiet activities Camp BUCKO offers. Campers will choose from several stations to create their own art work with volunteer support.

Fluids Team

Our campers are very active and thirsty during their busy days at camp. The fluids team will prepare and provide fluids for our campers at various stations throughout the site.

Fishing Team

Fishing is a popular activity offered during open waterfront. The fishing team will assist campers with worms, releasing fish and many hooks and tangles.

Photography Team

Our photography team will travel around camp taking pictures of campers enjoying the many activities and events throughout the week. The team will create a video of the week’s events to share with everyone at closing campfire.
